Info On Bats

 Habitat and roosting

The little brown bat lives in three different roosting sites: day roosts, night roost and hibernation roosts. Bats use day and night roosts during spring, summer and fall while hibernacula are used in winter. Day roost are usually found in buildings or trees, under rocks or wood piles and sometimes in caves. Nursery roosts are found in both natural hollows and in buildings (or at least close to them). Nursery roosts have also been found under sheet metal roofs of trapper’s caches and attics of buildings.[Night roosts tend to be in the same buildings as day roosts, however these roosts tend to be in different spots that are more constrained and the bats pack together for warmth. Bats rest in night roosts after feeding in the evening which may serve to keep their feces away from the day roosts and thus less noticeable to predators.

Raccoon Facts.
Raccoons are capable of achieving body masses made up of 50% body fat, but it is mostly the animals in the cooler regions that achieve this.

Their tails can make up 52% of their length, up to 405 mm.

Raccoons do not hibernate. During extremely cold periods raccoons have been known to sleep for long periods, but do not hibernate.

These critters climb with great ease and are not bothered by a drop of 35 to 40 feet! This is one of the truly amazing raccoon facts!

As well as being agile climbers, these animals are also very strong swimmers, although they are often reluctant to enter the water because without waterproof fur, swimming forces them to take on extra weight.

raccoon-front-paw Raccoons have a highly developed tactile sense. Their human-like forepaws (complete with 5 fingers) are used to pick up food with their front paws before putting it in their mouth. Just like you do. Here's more raccoon tracks.

These animals can live up to 16 years in the wild, but most don't make it past their second birthday. Did you know that a captive raccoon was recorded living for 21 years! Another of the truly amazing raccoon facts!

Raccoons generally have one litter per year that typically consists of 4 babies. Although they can have 3 to 7. Sexual maturity often occurs in females before they are one year old!

These critters carry many diseases, the worst of which is a microscopic parasite known as raccoon roundworm. It has been known to cause death and blindness in humans. If you've had one of these animals in your attic you need to get it disinfected to protect you and your loved ones. Its that time of year again in Big Bear where the moles are running rampid.  We offer a variety of different services for helping solve your Mole issue in Big Bear CA and the surrounding areas.  We are located on the mountain and offer 24HR Emergency Service
Eventhough these little guys are small they can cause a ton of damage to your property, and can cost you alot of money in damages to your yard.  We have been dealing with moles for over sixteen years and can handle any situation you might be having.

Some Info On Moles
Moles have polydactyl hands; each hand has an extra thumb next to the regular thumb. While the mole's other digits have multiple joints, the prepollex has a single, sickle-shaped bone which develops later and differently than the other fingers during embryogenesis from a transformed sesamoid bone in the wrist, independently evolved but similar to the giant panda

A mole's diet primarily consists of earthworms and other small invertebrates found in the soil and also a variety of nuts. The mole runs are in reality 'worm traps', the mole sensing when a worm falls into the tunnel and quickly running along to kill and eat it. Because their saliva contains a toxin that can paralyze earthworms, moles are able to store their still living prey for later consumption. They construct special underground "larders" for just this purpose—researchers have discovered such larders with over a thousand earthworms in them. Before eating earthworms, moles pull them between their squeezed paws to force the collected earth and dirt out of the worm's gut.

Some Facts About Rattlesnakes

Rattlesnakes are best known for, and most easily recognized by, their rattle. The rattlesnake babies are born with what is called a pre-button. The baby snake loses this piece when it sheds its skin for the first time. With the shedding a new button appears. With every shedding after that another button, or rattle, will be added. These buttons are made up of a material called Keratin, which is what the scales and your fingernails are made of! The rattles are empty, so what makes the noise? The noise comes from each segment knocking together, so until a rattlesnake has two or more pieces it isn’t going to make a sound! But when it does…you WILL hear it…and you WILL RUN!
Rattlesnakes are found in the southern parts of the United States, from the deserts to the mountains and grow between 3 and 4 feet (.9 to 1.2 m) long. There are 16 different types of Rattlers such as the Eastern Diamondback, Western Diamondback, Sidewinder and the Speckled, just to name a few. All of them have rattles, are venomous and are pit vipers.
Rattlesnakes feed on rodents, squirrels, rabbits and other small critters. They hibernate through the winter and come out in the spring to eat and then mate. Rattlesnake eggs will stay inside their mother until they hatch. Most of the time there are 8-10 babies born at once and are about 10 inches long. Babies are born venomous but cannot rattle and are often more aggressive than the adults.
